Growing Dragon Fruit in Migori
Soil suitability analysis based on Migori's nutrient profile
Yes — Migori is well suited to Dragon Fruit. Migori's soil (pH 5.43, strongly acidic) gives Dragon Fruit a suitability score of 80/100. Apply agricultural lime before planting to unlock phosphorus and lift the score.
Migori County is well suited to Dragon Fruit, scoring 80/100 on ShambaIQ's soil-match model. At an average pH of 5.43 the soil is moderately acidic, below Dragon Fruit's preferred 5.5–7 range; agricultural lime will lift pH and unlock phosphorus the crop cannot otherwise access. The main gap is potassium — measured at N 1.2 g/kg, P 12.2 mg/kg, K 169 mg/kg against this crop's medium/medium/high demand — so the fertilizer plan below prioritises closing that deficit. Dragon Fruit prefers sandy loam soils, while Migori is largely clay loam, so drainage and organic-matter management matter more here. On ShambaIQ's soil-match model, Dragon Fruit is the #18 soil match of the 106 crops we assess for Migori County. At current prices (about KES 500/kg) and a typical 5,000 kg/acre yield, a well-managed Dragon Fruit crop here can gross roughly KES 2,500,000 per acre.
